Current Conversations
The Current, Urban Electric’s annual art book-meets-magazine, is a beacon of design inspiration that celebrates creative luminaries around the world. The pages of the publication come to life at Charleston x Design through a series of intimate, salon-style gatherings that highlight some of its most compelling subjects. From the streets of New York City, where legendary visual artist Robert Rufino returns elegance and intrigue to the storefront window, to the shores of Denmark, where Louise Iuel-Brockdorff Albinus preserves the legacy of her family’s ancestral home, each event highlights a shared passion for craftsmanship, innovation and enduring beauty.

Louise Iuel-Brockdorff Albinus
Louise Iuel-Brockdorff Albinus has passionately pursued the restoration of her childhood home, the 13th century Danish castle, Valdemars Slot. After a family dispute forced its sale on the open market, Louise bought back the Estate in 2022 and fought to reclaim the countless cultural artifacts that she had grown up with. By inviting contemporary artists to create site-responsive works, Louise has reinstated an age-old tradition of artistic commissions at Valdemars Slot, bringing new life to the Estate.

Robert Rufino
Robert Rufino started his illustrious career at Henri Bendel where he famously created artistic-driven window displays. In the intervening years he has worked for a litany of design and fashion publications including Harper’s BAZAAR, The New York Times Magazine, Architectural Digest and Elle Décor and was previously the Vice President of Creative Services at Tiffany & Co. Most recently, Robert was commissioned by The Urban Electric Co. to bring the pages of The Current to life in a series of storefront installations on 10th Street in New York.
